Peach Jam Making with Edie Dafoe

Making Peach Jam

This class on traditional, cooked jam making, will be hosted by Hatch Creative Space. We’ll sanitize our jars, and measure prepared, frozen Palisade, peaches and the other ingredients.  We’ll then cook our jam and fill the jars. Next, we’ll process our filled jars to achieve an air tight seal. Finally, we’ll label our jars and taste our delicious creation!

Led by Edie Dafoe, who first learned to make jam 35 years ago, you’ll discover the six methods for preserving food, the required equipment, importance of accurate measurements and proper order in jam making, optional ingredients to avoid problems and enhance flavor and how to determine when you are successful.

Be forewarned!  Once you smell the fruity sweetness during cooking, witness the beautiful color and savor the intense flavor of homemade jam, store bought will pale in comparison!

This class will introduce you to the world of food preservation yourself or for gift-giving. Students will be able to take home (2) 8 ounce jars of jam.

All supplies are provided. Please dress with cooking safety in mind and bring an apron if you have one. Age 16 and up or age 12 and up with a parent, are welcome.
